This was no effing Mickey! [Nov. 17th, 2005|07:46 pm]
Enter scene

Josh, sitting in bed studying PR. A heartwrenching scream emerges from the stairway. Josh gets up and runs to the stairs to find a terrified roommate hiding in terror around the corner. Confused, Josh looks at roommate and roommate points and turns on lights. 3 steps up, at eye level, is a horrendous mouse. Josh Screams and runs into room. Mike screams more, swearing beyond belief, we are scared to move, Mike throws something at it. It falls down the stairs and Josh runs into room like a small girl. Mouse location unknown, SHIT. We carefully check the hallway. The mouse is nowhere. FUCK. Josh yells to Mike. We wonder where the mouse had gone. 5 minutes elapse, a hint of normalcy returns. Mike goes to the bathroom, Josh upstairs making pasta. Cue Scream. Cue expletives. More expletives. Mike runs from the bathroom in his boxer briefs and Josh races downstairs, blocks the doorway, both boys practically peeing themselves in the hallway. Josh spots movement under the radiator. The mouse moves behind the toilet, Mike thinks he sees movement somewhere else. HIGH ALERT LEVEL, there MAY now be 2 mice! HOLY SHIT FUCKERS! Possibility of 2 mice debated, one mouse decided upon. Mike sees mouse run under the bathmat. Terror. Mike takes mouse poison from Josh and throws it into the bathroom. The stupidity of this is soon realized. Mike orders Josh Upstairs to grab a frying pan. Josh returns with the frying pan. Mike takes skillet and resolves himself to attack. Mike slams frying pan over every inch of the bathmat. Silence. Still. Boys afraid. Hearts racing. Neither one wants to move the mat. Finally Mike inches the mat aside to reveal the convulsing body of a mouse. Both boys are horrified and run upstairs. Mouse continues convulsions. Then, deciding that something must be done since the shower water is still running, boys get the dust pan and broom and collect the ::shudders:: twitching body of the mouse. Josh takes mouse upstairs and puts in the trash can. Hearts racing. Dinner is served.

RIP Mouse-- May your death serve as an example to all other home invaders:
1. We don't want you.
2. Your presence will not be tolerated.
3. Death will not be painless.
4. There will be screaming.

An update from a long lost Lj-er... [Oct. 25th, 2005|04:08 pm]
[Current Mood |chipperchipper]
[Current Music |Man in the Mirror - Michael Jackson]

HI!!!

Ok, so I know I haven't written in a LOOOOONG time, but I had to post an update about this wonderful weekend.

So, as some of you, but certainly not all, may know, I was one of this year's Hike for Hunger coordinators. Now, this was a semi-hectic job that involved a lot of planning...but the payoff was worth it.

Friday night about 20 of the hikers came to have some ColdStone ice cream that my bosses generously donated--6 Buckets, I <3 them. We made signs and got everyone registered for the Hike. Then a dedicated few got into their PJs and sleeping bags and settled in for the night. Much fun was had, lots of mafia was played, a giant turd was found in the toilet...yeah...that was a good time. Literally, the girth on this thing was out of this world.

Saturday, after practically no sleep the coordinators woke up early and set up breakfast. A note on food: So, we got practically everything for the Hike donated, which was awesome. In addition to the 20 cases of Vitamin Water, 1000 Clif Bars, and 2 crates of Apples, Lucy and I had a great time with Manny at the Entemenn's Bakery Warehouse. Essentially, we filled and entire van with baked goods...raspberry danish anyone?

We set off wicked early after a few cheers and rituals. The hikers, to say the least, were amazing. They hiked all day, 25 miles without complaint. At some point it started to rain and we offered to take them in the vans, but they wanted to hike out the last few miles. AKA, amazing! That night we arrived at the "interesting" church where we made a big pasta dinner and stayed overnight. Several games of mafia, wallball, and twister later everyone had eaten their fill of pasta, salad, cookies, and of course Enteminn's!!

Sunday started off with a bit of rain, but a few cheers later, and despite the fact that everyone was exhausted the hikers were in high spirits. I kinda acted as the motivation cheerleader and blasted some AMAZING music at every checkpoint. Literally, picture 45 hikers rocking out to Total Eclipse of the Heart, Journey, and Madonna in a parking lot--it was quite the scene. Lunch at the YMCA camp was wonderful, we had some fun in the woods and in the cool cabin. After a little more hiking we finally got to Worcester.

After a fun filled drive, we arrived at the Heifer Overlook Farm. They gave us a great tour, and we got to see baby pigs and all other sorts of animals...llamas, watter buffalo...:) A nice hot meal and warm sendoff got us on the way. I took the Freshmen back to Warren in My Pants (my van) and had a blast listening to the most random music ever and passing up the other vans only to miss the exit (but we still beat them back!)

And that folks, was the Hike for Hunger in a nutshell. In a word, amazing!

Vicks is my Windex... [Sep. 29th, 2005|04:29 pm]
[Current Music |Rainy Day Mix - cause it's raining...]

So you know how in My Big Fat Greek Wedding the father is all about putting windex on everything. Well I just realized Vicks VapoRub is my windex. Anytime something goes remotely wrong with my upper body I just bust out the vicks, drink a cup of tea and let the steam flow into my open pores...this, to me, is the best medecine ever.

So that's my life right now, lying in bed with Vicks on my throat and under my nostrils. I might be my grandmother.

I'm alive...I think... [Sep. 15th, 2005|04:17 pm]
OK, just to let everyone know, I have not died...I am in fact still alive and kicking it in my fave city.

Hopefully there will be updates, and mail, and phone calls, and creative writing to follow this -- but for now, suffice it that I broke the silence.

Fin [Aug. 1st, 2005|02:37 pm]
Here I sit, spending the last few minutes I bought in my beloved Neptune Cafe.

I leave for home tomorrow and here's hoping all goes smoothly. I am definately smuggling some shit back that I am pretty sure you aren't allowed to bring back...well keep your fingers crossed for me (hey the worst they can do is take it right?)

So my time in France is almost over and it really is a bitter sweet end. I have loved all the amazing experiences I have had here and it is a trip I will remember for the rest of my life. I have a few new good friends who I can't wait to see back in Boston.

So to conclude here is a lits of things I will miss about France:
1. Cafe (no this is not coffee, it is intense espresso that you put a sugar cube in--and buying one buys you squatting rights at a table for as long as you want)
2. Eating (the French really have this down, firstly you dont eat until 9 or 930, and then dinner takes over 2 hours, always includes multiple courses and wine)
3. Pastries (omg...drools)
4. Drinking (more importantly having it not be such a big deal, it's a culture thing)
5. PDA (seriously, people here make out everywhere, and I am not jsut talking little pecks, no we are at groping level)
6. Thin attractive people (I hate to say it, but Americans really are fat, ESP in PA)
7. Nudity (it's everywhere, and there are no censors)
8. Bisous (kisses on the cheek, used as a greeting EVERY time someone sees someone they know, between men too, I can't tell you how cool that is to see)
9. Cheese
10. Small cars
11. Beautiful cities
12. Wine (this is seperate from alcohol because it is different, when I cam I hated wine and now I love it, and there is nothign better to drink with a picnic in the park)
13. Paris
14. Greetings and general etiquette (ie. when one walks in any store, one is greeted, without exception and when you leave they thank you for stopping in and say goodbye)
15. Parties in the streets and parks on weekends (the French love to celebrate)
16. Actually using something I've been studying for so long...

and things I won't miss...

1. Dogs shitting everywhere (ugh, you have no idea)
2. NO AC (seriously, WTF, it is 105 and you still don't have a fan)
3. Wondering if people know you're American (not that it's a bad thing, it just gets old)
4. Sketchy people with no personal space at night
5. BO (ok, the stereotype isn't really true, most people do use deodorant, but there is a decent number of peopel who do not...and let me tell you, summer time on the Tram...gaag)
6. Walking home (I get so lazy)
7. Feeling poor (the dollar sucks, and everything is expensive)
8. THE CUEF (ARRRGHH, this requires it's own entry one day)
9. My hard bed!
10. Waking up at 6AM

So in conclusion, France, je t'aime.

Au Revoir...

Much too little to do with far too much time...wait... [Jul. 25th, 2005|11:24 am]
[Current Music |Neptune Cafe Randomness]

HELLO!!!

How are you world, well let me say I am doing splendidly. I have had two of the best weekends of my trip AND of course finished Harry Potter.

Now there is far too much to rescount here, so you will just have to content yourselves with these small snippets and trust me to tell the entire stories later. Firstly, Paris for French Independance Day was wonderous. I pretty much fell in love with Paris (it really is the most beautiful city I've ever been in) The fireworks over the Tower, drinking 5 bottles of wine in the gardens, seeing the sights, walking along the Seine--really just glorious.

Then after a semi interesting, but also semi stultifying week of classes we set off for the French Riviera. Let's discuss beautiful beaches (I see why all the celebrities party here.) Also, a lot of really REALLY hot men in very small bathing suits, and even more interesting the largest number of breasts I have seen in my entire life. Seriously, who knew (other than women and straight men) that they came in such a myriad of shapes, sizes, perkyness, nipple variety, positioning...wow--blew my world...

Lastly for now, HARRY POTTER. So yes, I couldnt wait to read it and so I borrowed my friend's Brittish copy. I read a good deal of it in a compartment train, which was just thrilling in and of itself, in my brief words here I will say only that I agree, as Kristy can attest to, wholeheartedly the theories about Snape and RAB. I have a few others of my own, but they will be better elaborated on at a later date (aka when I get home.) Suffice it to say that I enjoyed the book, and while still not my favorite, it holds a high esteem...perhaps on second or third readings I will grow to love it even more. I can't commend JK Rowling enough for her wonderful characters and the seemingly tangible literary other reality she has created, so with that JK take a big pat on the back from me.

OH, and one other, VERY important detail. My flight arrives in Pittsburgh at 10:30 August 3rd. I, as though of you who I've talked to know, need someone to pick me up. I don't care who it is ( (8) preferred of course) just make sure there is room in the car for all my shit, caues there is a lot. I will gladly pay you for the short term parking fees and such. So if you are willing to do this leave me a comment so I can be sure I have a ride. Thanks a million guys. (also if my chauffeur happened to enjoy entertaining a lengthy Harry Potter, Enders Game, or Great Gatsby discussion, that would certainly not go amiss)

Pease out loves!!

Musee De L'eau, Caves, Marseille and More... [Jun. 27th, 2005|01:17 pm]
[Current Music |Neptune Cafe]

Ok this last week has been a good one.

The Fete de la Musique was an insanely huge party. I bought myself some vodka and we all walked around and listened to all different sorts of music and ate large slabs of meat that were cooking outside everywhere. There was this crazy French band playing american music from the 90s in punk rock style; I kid you not, Spice Girls were rocking, I have it on film.

A side note, the heat here is off the hook. I have recently learned that I am actually staying in the hottest city in France, because the mountains and pollution trap the heat and therefore we live in an oven. Tempqs are supposed to get into the 40s this week, which is like 110!! AHHHHHHH! Now, this wouldn't be so bad if there was ANY AC here, but there isn't, and we bought fans, but out host families freak out if we use them at night--cause that just makes more pollution--ARGGHH!

Anyways, we've had some good trips lately. We took a journey into Vercours, the mountain range, and went to this Museum of Water, which ounds lame but was actually awesome. Interactive and cool fountains, then a water bar where we samplied all kinds of mineral water--trippy. Then we took a hike to this burnt out skeleton village that the French resistance used. It was pretty, but then it started to rain on our picnic and we all jetted to sanctuary in a church. (Aside- we had Kinder Buenos for a snack, they are the greatest candy EVER.)

then we went to these caves that we wicked cool. Big lakes inside and a river or 2 nd tons of stalagmites and tites: Also these crazy salamander things that have lived here since prehistoric days. The best part about the cave was that it was cold!

Then the weekend arrived and some of the girls (Sarah and Diana) and I went to Marseille. It was my first time on a train and I rather enjoyed myself. We brought a picnic complete with sausage, cheese, bread, fruit and of course wine.

When we arrived in Marseille, now let me explain, Marseille is not touristy, it is very working class, but awesome. Our hotel could not have been in a more sketchy part of town. Next to the train station, our un air conditioned hotel semiwelcomed us. the beds were hard, the pillows were attached to the beds, the bathroom only had a curtain for a door..you get the picture--SKETCHY! But for 18 euros can you beat it?

the next day we awoke to the War of the Worlds cacophony outside out window. We set off to explore the city, and ended up at the old port which has been operating since 600 BC. Pretty cool, then we climbed a hill to see a church with a great view (cause thats what there is in every city) We spotted a castle on an island not far off shore and decided to take a ferry to said island.

After a VERY seafoody lunch we boarded the ferry to the Chateau D'If. Some of you may recall this castle as the setting of the Count of Mone Cristo--or for the less literary among you, The Man in the Iron Mask. It was pretty amazing. There were some agressive seagulls that tried to attack us and this col tower with amazing acoustics.

We came back, did some shopping and had drinks and then a great dinner. We found a new hotel for the second night; it had AC and we were sooo excited. So we watched us some French Sex and the City and went to bed. In the AM we roamed a bit, saw yet another amazing market and took the high speed train back home.

All in all, good times!

**Kisses on the cheek--BEYOND HOT RIGHT NOW!!!

The scariest thing ever and some French liberalism... [Jun. 21st, 2005|10:26 am]
Ok since I stupidly went to class at the wrong time--2 hours early, dammit Josh-- I figured I'd go chill in Neptune after taking a nice morning around the city and buying some bread at the market.

This past weekend has thus far been one of the most eventful of my life, both in good and bad experiences.

So, aside from 60 pages of reading in French every night (AHHH), Friday we went as a group to Lyon. There isn't too much to say about Lyon. It's pretty much a larger version of Grenoble, except with some cooler things and a big cathedral on the hill. Now, as to that cathedral, I must say it was pretty awesome. Think of one of those extremely ornate, semi gaudy rings that you see people wear, put some crosses and statues on it, and then make it cathedral sized--that is how I would describe it. At one point I started climbing on the alter in the crypt--apparently people seem to think I'm going to hell now, I told them that if God didn't put up a sign it must be ok.

We had a great lunch with WAY too much wine, and then when we got back into town we had a huge dinner with even more wine (I am now on like 9 glasses I think) Then we decided to hit up the bars and then go to a discotechque (aka club). The club was great, all of the girls got some ass because French men are easy. LET ME TELL YOU, YOU CANNOT tell when they are gay. All the straight men grind with guys--baffling, I know. Anyways, around 4:30 in the AM I was walking home, and I passed this sketchy guy near the train station. Now granted I live in a crappy part of town as it is, and so I get freaked out, turn around and he says something to me, I dont respond (wanting not to look American) and he starts following me. Ok- AHHH, so I walk faster and he is gaining on me, and I am freaked the fuck out. I thought I might die. After 10 minutes of this, he was about 10 feet from me, and I was about to start sprinting (I had already gotten out the cell phone, that didn't deter him) when these 2 big gay men come up and yell at him, tell him to stop, ask what the fuck he thinks he's doing following me, and tell him to leave me alone. I have no idea what happened after that cause I yelled thank you and started running home. Had those men not been there...shudder...I am calling them my 2 gay guardian angels, and if I ever see them again literally I might love them. Needless to say, from now on I'm taking a cab.

Anyways, after that, on Saturday we had a wine tasting class. We learned how to do this weird retro-olfactory thing where you smell from the back of your throat--it's trippy. Everyone laughed at me cause I was acting all snobby and turning my nose up at the water that people gave me. That night we went to this fete de lumiere. Aka, WEIRD trippy light festival. Sara and I were cracking up at the freaky light umbrella things.

Sunday was by far the best day. We headed off to Annency. A gorgeous town on an Alpine lake on the border of Switzerland. After a guided tour of the town. **side note: I HATE guided tours, they suck really hard** We ate lunch and I had a Nutella Milkshake...omg...

Anyways, it was literally insanely hot that day. I think it got up to 36, which is like 95 F. We rented a paddle boat for 6 of us and did some intense swimming and sunbathing. French people kept passing us and waving at us--topless girls and guys in speedos, oh le France.

Tonight is the Fete de Musique. A national holiday where the city closes and there are performers everywhere. Apparently it's like the craziest party you've ever seen. You had better believe I will be there.

More to come, and more pics soon...<3
